Our story begins before tea—on the old roads to Sylhet, when Hazrat Shahjalal (R.A.) arrived with devoted companions. Among them, Hazrat Shaykh Mohammad Zafar Arabi became an ancestor to our family. From that lineage we inherited three simple rules: care for people, respect the land, and serve quietly. These values travelled across centuries like a kept promise. Today, when we choose shade trees, pay fairly, or pause a harvest because the soil needs rest, we are following that same compass. Born on 2 Apr 1927 in Vatera Pargana, Kulaura, to a family of learning and service—his father Md. Abdul Karim a noted writer of devotional folk verse, and his maternal grandfather Principal Mawlana Khalil Ullah a revered scholar—Jamshed (pen name Jamshed Faizi) grew up with books, maps, and seedlings on the same table. He founded the Mawlana Khalil Ullah Quran Shikkha Kendra, supported local schools and a community clinic, and planted the 30-acre “Ranger Sahib’s Garden House,” which later inspired our modern tea garden. The main bungalow, Aranyarag, keeps its doors open to the evening breeze and the first kettle at dawn. Guests often find a copy of the book on the table; pages turn with the same soft rustle as the leaves outside. At Faizi, every leaf is shaped on our own land. We hand-pluck only tender shoots, then gently wither, roll, and finish the teas in small batches. Black teas develop depth through careful oxidation; green teas are heat-fixed to preserve brightness.
